Increasing Your Effectiveness in Ministry

Ministry Development morning for all Sunday school teachers and youth sponsors.

9:00am to 12:00pm.

9:30 Welcome

9:45 – 10:45 Workshop 1 "Walk Through the Bible" (Presenter: Gord Penner)
The Bible is one cohesive story of God’s plan of salvation. But how does everything fit together? In this session you’ll be taking on a wild and exciting journey through the Old Testament that will help you see how it leads into the New Testament and the coming of Jesus Christ. You will come away with a new appreciation for God’s infallible Word.

10:45-11:00 Coffee Break

11:00 – 12:00 Workshop 2 "Invisible BackPack" (Presenter: Eldon Dueck)
Children and teens come to church with life impacting stories that teachers often know nothing about. Struggling children and teens find it difficult to overcome their obstacles and life issues, so they often misbehave or act disrespectfully. When Sunday School teachers and youth workers look beyond the obvious misbehaviors, they can help struggling children and teens build resilience to face their struggles. They can adjust their teaching and guidance to help their students grow in their life and their spiritual interests. Specific strategies will be presented and discussed.

11:00 – 12:00 Workshop 3 "Effective Class Discussion" (Presenter: Dave Reimer)
For SEMC adult Sunday school teachers

Eldon Dueck, M. Ed.
6D Education Consulting and Training
Retiring after 3 decades in the Manitoba education system as a classroom teacher, resource teacher and a school principal, Eldon is knowledgeable and aware of what matters to children and teens.  Resilience and perseverance are two of the most important life-skills adults can help students develop.  He is passionate about listening for the “hidden” stories’ children carry with them in their daily lives and seeks to look beyond their behaviors to see who they really are. Adult mentors are key contributors to influencing the development of resilience skills in children and teens.  Eldon’s unique ability to connect and inspire will leave you with much to ponder about your role as an influencer.  Eldon spent three years as a full-time youth pastor after graduating from Bible College.  Though he moved into a public educator career, he has many rich church life experiences to draw from as he shares the tremendous influence a Sunday School teacher or youth leader can have!
